My two week visit to Spain was very…normal. I went to the popular cities and visited the popular sites. The first of those popular cities was Madrid. While researching this trip, I read mixed reviews on this city. Some say that there’s not much to do and that it’s not as charming as other popular cities. Respectfully, I disagree. Madrid is a cool, modern city with world class museums – even the ones that don’t make top ten lists are spectacular. Even though it was cloudy and rainy for most of my time there, I still enjoyed just walking around and taking everything in.
CITY WANDERING
As always, most of my time was spent wandering around the city.
NIGHT WANDERING
And of course I wandered around at night. Even though it was a bit rainy.
LA TABACALERA DE LAVAPIÉS
There are sooooo many incredible museums in Madrid, and you should definitely visit them. But there’s one that I’d like to talk about here. La Tabacalera de Lavapiés used to be a tobacco factory, and is currently a space that showcases temporary exhibits of modern art, photograph and visual arts. The history is interesting, so if you want to know more, read about it here.
I really enjoyed the exhibits, but my most favorite thing about this museum was the space itself. Much of the original structure remains…it really feels like you’re walking through an old factory. Minus the layers of dust and dangerous tripping hazards, of course. Out of respect for the artists, I’m not including photographs that show their work. But you can still get a taste of what the space is like from these pictures. If you ever visit Madrid, give La Tabacalera de Lavapiés a visit.
AND ONE LAST IMAGE
Imagine my surprise when this person came out for a smoke in the alley. I would love to know why they were wearing a Chucky outfit?? Whatever the reason, it was a fun surprise!
