My last stop in Taiwan was the city of Kaohsiung – the most busy port city in Taiwan. The main reason why I decided to visit was the Lotus Lake complex. But Kaohsiung has so much more to offer – including Pier-2 Art Center, Cijin Island and Ciaotou Sugar Museum.
LOTUS LAKE
Lotus Lake was my very first stop – even before dropping my luggage off at the hotel (I travel very light). It was another cloudy day, but the buildings and statues around the lake made up for that many times over.
CIJIN ISLAND
I was too busy enjoying the afternoon sun (and inhaling pork pepper buns and bubble tea) to take many pictures on Cijin Island. And I think I was having a tough time with inspiration. This happens to me a lot, actually. I’m still learning how to manage these feelings, but it was a bit easier this day with the beautiful scenery.
CIAOTOU SUGAR MUSEUM
I cannot believe that I was thinking of skipping this place. The Ciaotou Sugar Museum used to be a sugar refinery (no surprise). The way that the museum was designed was absolutely genius. Visitors get virtually free reign to explore the entire factory – there are just a few areas that are restricted. It’s like urban exploration except legal and (pretty much) safe.
URBAN
As always, I walked around the city quite a bit.
