There’s something magical about the north shore of Lake Superior during winter. Yes, it can be frigid, but the lake is still alive with color and movement. I’ve never spent much time up here in the summer – too many crowds and way too expensive. Give me winter, any day.
SPLASH ICE
We were fortunate enough to pass by a large section of splash ice. The light was fading fast, so we had to act quickly!
SEA SMOKE
Sea smoke happens when the air temperature is much colder relative to the water temperature. Relative is the key term – everything was cold on the morning that we saw this!
SURFACE ICE
Ice takes all different forms – from glass smooth to crackled to individual pellets.
