On my last day in Hong Kong, I visited the abandoned seaside village of Ma Wan. Here’s a short article about why Ma Wan was abandoned. Today, you can walk around the village as you wish, and the building that you’re not supposed to go into are secured. While no one was living in the village, there were a lot of people walking through the narrow streets collecting trash. Everyone was very friendly, and I wished for the millionth time that I was able to speak Chinese.
Ma Wan village looks like it was a nice place to live. Too bad that the residents were kicked out, but nothing was actually done with their homes.
Tin Hau Temple is still in use, just on the edge of Ma Wan village.
